The VARD 2 240 anchor handling supply and towing vessel, “Placentia Bay”, is one of six sister ships built for the Husky Oil Marketing and Bow Valley Resource Services consortium in 1983. They were acquired in 2000 by Maersk.

They were designed to be able to carry:

  • Deck cargo with a deck load capacity of 2.6mt/m2
  • Liquid cargoes such as mud, drill water, fresh water, fuel etc.
  • A combination of deck cargo, dry bulk and liquid cargo at a maximum deadweight according to load line.
  • Passengers, if full crew not embarked
